BRIDGES, TUNNELS AND RAIL ADVISORY 

Lane closings scheduled on the Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge,

Outerbridge Crossing, George Washington Bridge and Holland Tunnel

PATH’s World Trade Center Station closed this weekend;

Alternative modes of transportation to be provided

Lane closings are planned for the Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Holland Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge this weekend and/or next week for ongoing construction and repair projects. Work scheduled for this weekend is weather dependent and may be cancelled if conditions warrant. 

Bayonne Bridge:

The bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, January 18, through noon Saturday, January 19, for ongoing construction work.

The bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday night through Thursday night, January 21 through January 24, for ongoing construction work.

Goethals Bridge:

  • To accommodate upgrades to the bridge’s toll collection system, expect construction work in the toll plaza areas and intermittent overnight bridge lane closures.

Outerbridge Crossing:

  • To accommodate upgrades to the bridge’s toll collection system, expect construction work in the toll plaza areas and intermittent overnight bridge lane closures.

Holland Tunnel:

  • One westbound lane in the tunnel will be closed during overnight hours from Tuesday, January 22, through Thursday, January 24, from 11:59 p.m. each night through 5:30 a.m. the following morning. These closures are needed for ongoing tunnel repairs.
  • One eastbound lane in the tunnel will be closed during overnight hours from Tuesday, January 22, through Thursday, January 24, from 11 p.m. each night through 5 a.m. the following morning. These closures are needed for ongoing tunnel repairs.

George Washington Bridge:

  • The ramp connecting the eastbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge to West 178th Street in Manhattan is closed for up to 12 months for deck replacement. Passenger cars seeking access from the bridge to local streets in Manhattan should take Exit 1 towards Route 9/Henry Hudson Parkway and follow detour signs to West 181st Street in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. Trucks over 13 feet, 6 inches in height will not be permitted to use the bridge during the duration of the project. Trucks under that height seeking access to local streets should take Exit 2 to Amsterdam Avenue.
  • One lane on the bridge’s eastbound side will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, January 18, through 12:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19. At 12:30 a.m., two lanes on the bridge’s eastbound side will be closed into the Trans Manhattan Expressway until 5:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19, and all traffic will be diverted to Amsterdam Avenue.
  • One lane on the lower-level eastbound Trans Manhattan Expressway will be closed from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19.
  • One lane on the upper level westbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, January 18, through 5:30 a.m. Saturday, January 19.

PATH:

  • PATH’s World Trade Center station will be closed this weekend, starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, January 19 through 5 a.m., Monday, January 21 for extensive tunnel repairs necessitated by Superstorm Sandy. Service on the Newark-World Trade Center line will terminate at Exchange Place during this period. Free transfers for New York Waterway ferry service between Harborside Ferry Landing in Jersey City, near the Exchange Place station, and the Brookfield Place Terminal in Lower Manhattan will be available for customers impacted by the service outage. PATH also is partnering with Lyft to offer affected customers a 50-percent discount on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m. for shared rides between Exchange Place and World Trade Center.
